CHAP Program
As a Family Requiring In and Out of Home Respite Care

The CHAP (Community Helpers for Active Participation) is a provincial program that assists families who are seeking temporary relief in caring for their child, youth or adult to be connected with an Independent Respite Provider. The CHAP program matches qualified Independent Respite Providers to families who seek respite care within their local community.

Independent Respite Provider’s use their knowledge and experience to provide meaningful support to individuals diagnosed with a developmental or physical disability while providing families an opportunity for a short, planned break.

As a family registered with the CHAP database, you will have access to:

• A database of Independent Respite Providers who have been successfully screened into the CHAP program
• A classified ad to be shared with Independent Respite Providers seeking to support individuals diagnosed with an physical or developmental disability

Please note: The Independent Respite Provider is not an employee of CHAP and/or RespiteServices.com. Once Independent Respite Provider’s are hired with a family, it is the discretion of the family and independent respite provider to discuss whether the Independent Respite Provider be hired on as employee/employer relationship or as an independent contractor. The CHAP program is a venue for people offering support services to advertise themselves locally. There is no charge for the use of the Respite Provider Database. We cannot guarantee that we can always make an appropriate connection between a CHAP Respite Provider and a family/individual needing support.

While information about COVID-19 is changing every day we are acting with an abundance of caution to keep everyone safe. We urge you to follow the advice of the Province’s Chief Medical Officer found on this link www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus to keep yourself, your family members and the people you support, healthy and safe.
